Geraldo Vidigal is Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), where he lectures International Trade Law and Public International Law and coordinates the LL.M. in International Trade and Investment Law.
Dr. Vidigal is the author of Adjudicating over Anarchy: Judicial Remedies, Compliance, and Enforcement in International Law (Cambridge University Press, 2026) and co-editor (with Kathleen Claussen) of The Sustainability Revolution in International Trade Agreements (Oxford University Press, 2024). He publishes regularly on International Economic Law and International Dispute Settlement in peer-reviewed journals and high-level edited volumes.
Dr. Vidigal is Editor-in-Chief of Legal Issues of Economic Integration (Kluwer), integrates the Board of Editors of the Journal of International Economic Law (OUP) and is a founding editor of the Latin American and Caribbean Journal of International Law (Brill). He was twice elected for the Executive Council of the Society of International Economic Law (2022-2024, 2025-2027).
Dr. Vidigal holds a PhD in Law from the University of Cambridge, a Master’s in International Law from the Sorbonne Law School and a Bachelor’s in Law from the University of São Paulo. He has held visiting positions and fellowships at the European University Institute, the Graduate Institute (Geneva), Freie Universität Berlin and Bocconi University (Milan).
Prior to joining UvA, Dr. Vidigal worked as a Dispute Settlement Lawyer at the World Trade Organization (Legal Affairs Division) and was a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution of the Max Planck Institute in Luxembourg. He integrates the WTO's indicative roster of dispute settlement panelists as well as the European Union's list of trade panelists and trade and sustainability experts for dispute settlement under international trade agreements.
